OVERVIEW OF NAFPTA

NAFPTA was established in March 2015 and is a membership organization of fish processors and traders operating small and medium scale fisheries businesses in Ghana.  NAFPTA is also a member of African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network.(AWFishNet) which is a network of women fish processors and traders from the  African Union member states.  (visit african-womens-fish-processors-and-traders-network@googlegroups.com)

The Association falls under component 3(Three) of Strengthening Fisheries Associations of the West Africa Regional Fisheries Programme(WARFP) and Ghana’s Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development(MoFAD) with support from the World Bank.

The National Association is made up of a network of ten main regional associations.  The regional associations are also composed of district networks formed by a collection of the local fish processors and traders groups.

Membership of the Association is opened to local groups of fish processors and traders across the ten regions of Ghana-from Keta to Half Assini along Ghana’s coastal belt, from Akosombo through Jemeni to Yeji, from Accra to the Northern and Upper regions through Koforidua, Kumasi, Techiman and Kintampo.
Total membership stands at 14,700 presently and still growing.

The developmental goal of NAFPTA is to organize fish processors and traders to identify their common strengths and weaknesses and work together with a common voice to advocate for policies that will sustain and promote their businesses.

Form partnerships with the Government of Ghana and key stakeholders that will contribute to effectively influence fisheries and allied business policies and programs.

Develop capacity of members in order to enhance the fish processing and marketing business. The aim is to equip members with the skills to compete in the global fish market.
